West London Partnership

Cultural Offer 2012

The Western Wedge

The Western Wedge is the arts partnership for West London. It has a history of working proactively sub-regionally to develop programmes of work, network initiatives, research and artistic briefs. The Western Wedge recognises its role to act as a catalyst, facilitator and communication conduit. It is a key knowledge base and dissemination mechanism and the benefits of working in partnership are proactively promoted.

The Western Wedge West London Cultural 2012 aims are to:

• Be a key partner for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG), Mayor’s Office, DCMS and ACE to deliver maximum creative value to West London’s arts sector and communities

• Enable and seek to ensure that as many as possible of the artists, artisans, technicians, organisers and managers based in West London are successful in engaging with the London 2012 Cultural Programme at both a West London and international level

The focus of this West London Cultural Offer is on the Western Wedge, eight boroughs on the west and central/west side of London: Brent, Ealing, Harrow, Hounslow, Hammersmith and Fulham, Hillingdon, Kensington and Chelsea* and Westminster*. All but two of these fall within the West London Alliance (the exceptions are marked*).

WEST LONDON’S 2012 CULTURAL VISIONS

West London is seeking to secure a cultural legacy and build lasting partnerships nationally and internationally from engagement with the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 by:

• Presenting a distinctive West London Cultural Offer for the London 2012 Cultural Programme which would act as a catalyst for further cultural development

• Securing longer term strategic benefits in terms of developed capacity and profile for the arts and cultural sectors in West London beyond 2012 in line with existing priorities – its artists, cultural infrastructure and communities

• Artists and artisans developing the ‘West London Story’ to find and tell its own distinctively different part of London’s story (explored below)
